Volunteer Non-Construction Opportunities
Following are volunteer opportunities for those who would rather serve in a non-construction capacity.
Habitat ReStore
Habitat operates a store that sells donated, new and used building materials to the general public, at exceptionally affordable prices. Volunteers are needed for customer assistance, stocking materials, repair and prepare, and other tasks.

Habitat Committees
Fill out the Interest/Skills Non-Construction form and mail to Habitat for Humanity of Winchester- Frederick County, P.O. Box 1653 Winchester, VA 22604 or fax to 540-450-3060 or bring it to the Habitat office at 145 Baker Street, Winchester, Virginia 22601. The following list of committees is subject to change.
Building Committee - Works with site selection committee to choose area in which to work and type of construction. Deals with house design, material, and amenities for the work. Develops construction plan and cost estimates. Ensures that the affiliate follows good safety practices at all building sites.
Site Selection Committee - Defines the area/neighborhood and works to acquire building sites within it. Recommends property for acquisition to the Habitat Board.
Development Committee - Implements public relations and fund-raising policies of Board of Directors. Organizes publicity events and develops newsletters and other publications. Recognizes supporters and volunteers.
Family Selection Committee - Defines population in need of decent, affordable housing and develops processes and policies for selecting those in greatest need. Committee must be fair, objective, and nondiscriminatory.
Family Nurture Committee - Serves as liaison between affiliate and partner families. Helps families manage problems of low income, lack of education, improper nutrition and health care, lack of transportation, debts, low self-esteem and frustrations by providing them with a support system, educational opportunities, and a forum for discussions.
Public Relations Committee - Shares Habitat’s mission and increases public awareness with the people living in the geographic service area and all volunteers through effective media communication.
Volunteer Committee - Provides coordination for hosting outside work camps; organizes food, first aid, and hospitality on the work site; and plans an annual volunteer appreciation event.
Church Relations Committee - Serves as a liaison between area churches and Habitat affiliate.
Weekday Office Support either on-going or as needed to help with filing, research, envelope stuffing, answering the phone, etc.
Special Event Staffing with one-day projects such as “Hallelujah for Habitat” at Christmas time, “Ride VA Poker Run” in the spring, and “Blues House” in the summer.
